In 2012, a cooperation agreement called "Political Behavior and Institutions in Comparative Perspective: Brazil and Spain" was signed between the Research Group "Public Opinion, Political Marketing and Electoral Behavior", from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), and the Department of Political Science and Administration II of Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). This agreement was initiated and is coordinated by Professor Helcimara Telles (UFMG) and Professor Leticia M. Ruiz (UCM). The purpose of this agreement is to promote knowledge and comparative research of institutions and electoral behavior in the two countries. Various important work initiatives have been performed jointly by these two institutions.
It is possible to highlight, among others, the International Seminar organized by Grupo Opinião Pública at UCM (Madrid, November 2011), the participation in a book edited by Telles and Moreno (Editora UFMG, 2013), in a number of the Magazine edited by UFRGS (vol. 8 no. 1, 2014), as well as the development of joint projects between the UCM and Grupo Opinião Pública in the congresses promoted by AECPA (Murcia, September 2011), ANPOC (aguas de Lindoia, October 2013 ) and LASA (Washington, May 2013).
Currently undergoing is the co-supervision of two PhD students from UFMG, who will spend a year of their training at UCM, and work in a joint research on district activy. So far we have built a database with the cases of Bolivia, Chile and Peru, obtained through the project "The links between voters and parties: the activity of district deputies Chile, Peru and Bolivia" (CSO2011-24344 ), funded by the Ministry of Education of Spain. In the future we intend to add data related to Spain and Brazil as a result of the collaborative effort between UFMG and the UCM data.
Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Centro de Investigação media e Jornalismo CIMJ, of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and the universities of São Tomé e Moçambique develop together the project "Media coverage of politic corruption: a compared perspective". The articulation between media and corruption is common in many countries, a fact that motivated the partnership for the execution of a study that intends to analyse comparatively the representation and the perception of corruption in the media. This inter-institutional cooperation comprises analyses of traditional media and internet in the participating countries.
In Portugal the project is led by professor doctor Isabel Ferin Cunha, of Universidade de Coimbra. In Brazil it is coordinated by the professor doctor Helcimara Telles, of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - UFMG. The collaboration resulted in the publication of the book: "Cobertura Jornalística da Corrupção Política: Sistemas Politicos, Sistemas Mediaticos, Enquadramentos Legais. 1 edicao. Lisboa: Aletheia Editores 2014 ".
