CALL FOR PAPERS: Electoral forecasts in Latin America Latin American Journal of Public Opinion

19/11/2019
The Latin American Journal of Public Opinion (RLOP) is scheduled to prepare a Special Number on electoral forecasts in Latin America, which will be edited by Éric Bélanger, Michael S. Lewis-Beck and María Celeste Ratto. The prediction of election results has been frequently studied in the United States and Europe, but has received little attention in Latin America and the Caribbean. In this sense, RLOP wants to encourage research in electoral forecasts in the region, so it invites the presentation of papers on this topic at the WAPOR International and WAPOR Latin America Congresses, which will take place in Salamanca, Spain from 6 to 9 October 2020 (http://www.waporlatinoamerica.org/).

The works may be case studies (single country elections), or compared to several countries in Latin America. Also, they will be able to explore a variety of approaches such as polls of voting intention (for example, aggregation), the construction of regression models (for example economic policy equations), new estimation methods with machine learning techniques (for example, random forests) or some combination of these or other methods. About eight to ten jobs will be accepted to form two panels at WAPOR Salamanca. Authors and publishers may, of course, also organize related panels at other conferences such as LASA, ALACIP, APSA, SPSA, ECPR, as well as other outstanding personal and professional networks. The selected works will logically be submitted to the process of blind peer evaluation before finally being approved for publication in RLOP.

The final intention of this effort is to produce a Special Number for RLOP, providing an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaborations between experts from the academy and the survey industry, whom we encourage to participate in an active and determined way. The final list of works selected after the Congress in Salamanca will be submitted to a blind review process by experts, before being prepared and accepted for publication in RLOP.
The deadline for submitting proposals to participate in one of the two panels at the 2020 WAPOR International / Latin America Congress is December 20, 2019.

If you have any questions or queries, you can contact the editors of the Special Number: Éric Belanger (eric.belanger3@mcgill.ca), Michael Lewis-Beck michael-lewis-beck@uiowa.edu), and María Celeste Ratto mceleste_ratto @ hotmail. com).
CALL FOR PAPERS: Election Forecasting in Latin America
The Latin American Journal of Public Opinion (RLOP) intends to publish a Special Issue on election forecasting in Latin America and the Caribbean, to be edited by Éric Bélanger, Michael S. Lewis-Beck, and María Celeste Ratto. The forecasting of election outcomes has been a significant object of study in the United States and Europe but has drawn little attention across Latin America and the Caribbean. In an effort to stimulate electoral forecasting research in the region, we encourage paper proposals for the joint WAPOR International and WAPOR-LA conferences to take place in Salamanca, Spain from October 6th to 9th, 2020 (http://www.waporlatinoamerica.org /).

The papers could focus on the elections of a single country or a group of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and could explore a variety of approaches, such as the polling of vote intentions (eg, aggregation), the building of regression models ( eg, political economy equations), new learning machine techniques (such as random forests), or some combination of these or other methods. We expect to accept eight to ten papers to form two panels at WAPOR Salamanca. The authors and editors may, of course, convene related panels at conferences such as LASA, ALACIP, APSA, SPSA, ECPR, as well as draw on other relevant personal and professional networks.

The ultimate goal of this effort is to produce a Special Issue of the RLOP by taking advantage of this excellent opportunity for collaboration among experts in the academy and in the polling industry; the latter are particularly encouraged to submit proposals. It goes without saying that, after the Conference in Salamanca, the papers selected for the special issue will be subject to peer review before final acceptance in RLOP.
Deadline for submission of paper proposals to participate in one of two possible panel during the 2020 WAPOR International / Latin America Conference is December 20, 2019.
